about lela

Though sandwiches, salads, soups, suppers & snacks are often thought of as simple foods, I adhere to my tried and true philosophy: they always taste better when someone else makes them for you. And they always taste best when made with fresh, whole ingredients that you feel good about eating!

"Life itself is the perfect binge." - Julia Child

A Little Backstory:

Adopted from India as an infant and raised on a farm outside of Boston, some of my favorite childhood memories include global cuisine. From watching my paternal grandfather of Russian-Jewish descent prepare ruby-red borscht; eating dosas with chutney made by my South Indian uncle, picking Concord grapes from our garden with my mother, and taking in the aromas from the kitchen as a constant stream of houseguests from around the world prepared pungent dishes, sharing their culinary culture and traditions with our family.

After high school, I moved to Los Angeles, attended university, and spent the First Act of my career working in many facets of the entertainment industry including production, talent management and movie marketing. Eventually I formed my own boutique PR company, representing talent and lifestyle clients and producing events for the Oscars®, Golden Globes, Sundance Film Festival, CD & business launches, nonprofit organizations. Since 2003 I have traveled annually to Wichita, Kansas to produce the city’s Tallgrass Film Festival, which has become the premiere film festival in the region over the last 7 years.

So how does one go from Mise en scene to Mise en Place? Following a lifelong dream I moved to the Windy City and attended a two-year program at Kendall College, earning an Associates Degree in the Culinary Arts. My culinary internship at Chicago's Entertaining Company, the city's preeminent “idea caterer” was inspiring, and blossomed into an on-going relationship which includes a collaboration on the upcoming book One World Weddings. And so began Act Two...

I relocated to the Denver-area in the fall of 2007 and decided to combine my culinary passion and on-the-go lifestyle to serve nutritious, whole cuisine crafted from my favorite ingredients. In the words of my culinary hero Julia Child "Bon Appetit!"
